BMOP opens its 18th season on Saturday, November 16 with a concert performance of Virgil Thomson’s innovative opera Four Saints in Three Acts, which rocked the world of opera when it debuted on Broadway in 1934.

Norman’s piece succeeded beyond what even his most ardent supporters could have anticipated. Combining everything from Bach to Reich in beautiful form, he channeled the modern human condition in which technology dominates ever more of our lives.

Composer-in-residence Andrew Norman appeared on Boston Neighborhood Network to discuss his trajectory as a composer as well as the upcoming BMOP season finale, during which his Play will be premiered, along with works by fellow Gen X-ers Mason Bates and Huang Ruo.

At BMOP's free April 14th concert, composer and NEC Master Composer-in-Residence Oliver Knussen will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate following intermission during the evening's program.
