BMOP/sound releases first album of 2009, Derek Bermel: Voices

BMOP/sound, the nation's premiere label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music recordings, today announced the release of Derek Bermel: Voices, the first of nine BMOP/sound albums to be released in 2009. From the melodic roots of West Africa to the infectious grooves of Bulgarian folk music, the CD's four orchestra works meld Bermel's love for orchestral and jazz music with a myriad of unlikely traditions and influences.

BMOP: The Music of Bernard Rands at the Festival of New American Music

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) will celebrate renowned composer Bernard Rands's 70th birthday with a free performance of his Canti Trilogy at 8pm on November 5, 2004 as part of the 27th annual Festival of New American Music (FENAM) at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS). BMOP/sound releases Lisa Bielawa: In medias res

Composer-vocalist Lisa Bielawa's solo and orchestral music will be released as a 2-CD set entitled In medias res by BMOP/sound in June 2010. Performed by the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), conducted by Artistic Director Gil Rose, the first disc, an SACD, includes four orchestral works: Roam (2001); Double Violin Concerto (2008) featuring violinist/vocalist Carla Kihlstedt and violinist Colin Jacobsen; unfinish’d, sent (2000) featuring the composer as soprano soloist; and In medias res, concerto for orchestra (2009).
