Soprano Heather Buck joins BMOP again along with an all-star cast for the world premiere recording of Charles Wuorinen: Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Get on the bus and come with us for a fantastical, operatic journey with Salman Rushdie, librettist James Fenton, and Charles Wuorinen.

Four world-class soloists join BMOP on Boston mainstay John Harbison's FOURTH disc on BMOP/sound. Violist and MIT professor Marcus Thompson performs the earliest work on the disc, Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (1988). Homegrown duo Emily and Julia Bruskin team up for an adversarial Double Concerto for Violin, Violoncello, and Orchestra (2009). The disc closes with Concerto for Bass Viol and Orchestra (2005), featuring BSO principal bassist Edwin Barker.

Her story fascinated composer Norman Dello Joio so much that he wrote multiple operas and orchestral works. The history and legend of Joan of Arc lives on in the latest BMOP/sound release: Norman Dello Joio: The Trial at Rouen. Opening with his Triumph of Saint Joan Symphony, this two-disc release features the world premiere recording of his opera The Trial at Rouen.

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, Harold Shapero: Orchestral Works collects five pieces by Boston composer Harold Shapero. The works on this disc span from 1945–1960, early in Shapero's career, including a rare recording of his Serenade in D for String Orchestra. Pianist Vivian Choi joins BMOP on Partita in C.

Concert halls may still be closed but BMOP/sound has new music to keep things interesting. Eric Nathan: the space of a door frames a body of work that spans eight years (2008-2016), displaying the Providence-based composer's varied interests and inspirations, and exemplifies BMOP’s commitment to championing the works of young composers.

In 2015, BMOP and Odyssey Opera presented Gunther Schuller's fantastical operatic retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale The Fisherman and His Wife. Now you can enjoy this opera from the comfort of your home on BMOP/sound's 70th CD release. With a libretto by John Updike, what more could you wish with a wish?

Immerse yourself in new music from BMOP/sound and composer David Felder on the first release of 2020: Les Quatre Temps Cardinaux. Taking its title from a poem by René Daumal, translated as "The Four Cardinal Times", and incorporating works from Daumal and three other poets, Felder's large-scale song cycle is composed for 40 musicians, two solo voices, and 12 channels of surround-sound electronics. Soloists Laura Aikin and Ethan Herschenfeld join BMOP for this sophisticated electro-acoustic work.

Steven Mackey: Time Release is the composer's second BMOP/sound CD, featuring percussionist Colin Currie on the title track. The rest of the disc explores the coexistence of marine life and city life on Urban Ocean; "Shadow Chords" in Tonic; and Latin clave rhythms in Turn the Key.

Drawing on the composer's admiration and scholarship of Berg, Bartókian, and Stravinskian aesthetics, George Perle: Serenades collects three important orchestral works by a twentieth-century master, offering a three-decade snapshot of George Perle's never-ending quest to refine his "twelve-tone tonality." Pianist Donald Berman and violist Wenting Kang join BMOP as soloists.

Composer Keeril Makan contextualizes silence, connects past and present, and explores dream states and reality on BMOP/sound's Keeril Makan: Dream Lightly. Featuring guitar soloist Seth Josel on the title track and longtime BMOP players Charles Dimmick and Peter Sulski as soloists on Still.
