Set in a Bronx hospital in the late 1960s, Tobias Picker: Awakenings tells the true story of neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks, who received worldwide acclaim for awakening survivors of the “sleeping-sickness” epidemic of the 1920s from their decades-long, frozen-like state with the drug L-DOPA.

BMOP/sound has two CD releases this month! Beginning with Avner Dorman: Siklòn, this disc collects five orchestral works spanning 20 years of Dorman's compositional output. Lee Hoiby: The Italian Lesson features two chamber operas for mezzo-soprano, showcasing longtime BMOP collaborator Janna Baty as a harried mid-century housewife and soloist Vanessa Schukis as the great Julia Child—with an actual cake recipe!

BMOP caps its quarter-century celebration with a trip to the historic Carnegie Hall to give the New York premieres of three BMOP-commissioned works. Reprising pieces by Andrew Norman, Lei Liang, and Lisa Bielawa—all originally written for, premiered and recorded by BMOP—this concert is a rare opportunity to hear BMOP perform works for a second time, and on the iconic Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.
