Music at the Anthology (MATA) is currently accepting scores for consideration for commissions and performances for the tenth annual MATA Festival in New York City in March 2008. This festival will be presented in participation with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Up to four commissions ranging from solo to orchestral will be awarded. Commission amounts will depend on the scope of the commissioned work. Composers are expected to attend the premiere of their work.

Eligibility

Although commissions are only awarded to composers who are under 40 at the time of submission, composers of all ages who are at the early stages of their careers will be considered for programming on the festival.

If your music has been programmed by MATA, or you have received a commission, you must wait three years before re-applying. Only one commission will be awarded to any one composer in his or her lifetime.

Submission Guidelines

Postmark Deadline: January 1, 2007

MATA has commissioned work for a broad range of media, including Partch instruments, children's chorus, chamber ensembles, sound art, and multi-media work. If possible, include work for large ensemble or orchestra, but be sure to include whatever you consider to be your best work, no matter what the medium.

Materials for submission must include:

    1. Cover letter (Please include a sentence in your cover letter specifying if you would like your works to be considered generally for the festival in the event that you are not chosen for a commission.)
    2. 2 recorded samples of recent work (MIDI tapes will not be accepted.)
    3. Scores to accompany the above recordings (unless scores are not pertinent)
    4. Biography or resume
    5. List of works
    6. SASE if you wish to have your materials returned.
