The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) will present the final piece in its three-part series on campus this Sunday.
BMOP is dedicated to playing American music composed in the 20th and 21st centuries. The orchestra presents contemporary interpretations of traditional forms of music, geared toward a new generation of listeners. Under the direction of Gil Rose, BMOP has gained renowned popularity and national praise.
This program, entitled “Bang Theory,” will showcase the compositions of the founding members of the collective, Bang on a Can. Dedicated to the “Downtown School” of music, their style reacts to theoretical music.
According to Associate Professor of Music Vin Shende, who helped arrange the Bowdoin performance, BMOP is a “good, fun, fantastic ensemble.”
“The virtuosity of players is out of this world.” Shende said. “It incorporates the visceral energy of rock music and the elements of ‘classical’ music.”
The past two performances were successful and drew a large audience of students and community members.
BMOP will perform on Sunday April 17 at 7 p.m. in Studzinski Recital Hall, Kanbar Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
