Gil Rose founded BMOP in 1996 and is now recognized as one of a new generation of American conductors shaping the future of classical music. |
BMOP's strongest attribute is the artistic distinction of the orchestra. The New York Times writes, "These musicians were rapturous - superb musicians at work and play." |
Each season, BMOP is privileged to host some of the world's greatest artists, many of whom perform works that are composed with their talents in mind. In addition, BMOP provides a stage for younger artists who are disitinguishing themselves by excelling within BMOP's wide-ranging repertoire.

Composers are at the core of BMOP's mission, and since the beginning they have helped shape the orchestra's vision. BMOP depends on composers not only for their music, but also for their collaboration. Whenever possible, visiting composers work directly with the orchestra and interact with BMOP's audience. The result is a synergy unmatched by most symphony orchestras.
