BMOP Salutes Canadian Composers at its Season Opening Concert

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, kick-starts its 2011-12 season with a nod to our friendly neighbor to the North, Canada. Paying homage to some of Canada's top composers, BMOP is slated to perform: Vessel by Kati Agocs; Symphony No. 2 by Colin McPhee; Letter from Mozart by Michael Colgrass; and Orion by Claude Vivier.

BMOP Announces its 2011-12 Season

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation’s premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, today announced the programming for its 2011-12 season. BMOP announces BMOP/NEC 2011 concerto competition

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), affiliate orchestra for new music at New England Conservatory, will join NEC in sponsoring a concerto competition for works written after 1961.

Provisions: The competition will be held on May 11, 2011 from 1pm to 3pm at Keller Room, Jordan Hall building. The competition will consist of one round.

Eligibility: The competition is open to any full-time NEC student, instrumental or vocal, who will be returning in the 2011/2012 academic year.

BMOP/sound releases John Cage: Sixteen Dances

BMOP/sound, the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music recordings, today announced the August '09 release of John Cage: Sixteen Dances, the first and only available SACD surround sound edition. Widely recognized as perhaps the most influential American composer of the 20th Century, John Cage took a remarkably bold first step in composition by using chance operations in his piece, Sixteen Dances (1951).

Boston Modern Orchestra Project presents "Luminous Noise: Three Women Compose"

On Saturday, Dec. 11, at 8 pm, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) kicks off a three-concert performance series at Wellesley College with "Luminous Noise: Three Women Compose," featuring works by Chen Yi, Judith Weir and Jenny Olivia Johnson, three of the most dynamic female composers creating new orchestral works today. The performance, held at Houghton Chapel, is free and open to the public.

Tufts University Department of Music presents "Luminous Noise" – a concert by BMOP

BMOP presents Full Score

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's leading orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing, commissioning, and recording new music, will present its final concert of the 2009-10 season, Full Score, at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street), on Friday, May 28 at 8:00pm. After three instrument-centric performances ("Big Bang" for percussion, "Band in Boston" for winds, and "Strings Attached" for strings), the BMOP season will culminate with a full orchestral program uniting over 70 musicians and guest baritone Sanford Sylvan.
