The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, kick-starts its 2011-12 season with a nod to our friendly neighbor to the North, Canada. Paying homage to some of Canada's top composers, BMOP is slated to perform: Vessel by Kati Agocs; Symphony No. 2 by Colin McPhee; Letter from Mozart by Michael Colgrass; and Orion by Claude Vivier.

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation’s premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, today announced the programming for its 2011-12 season. By harnessing internationally-acclaimed composers and regional talent, BMOP presents a nine concerts ranging from intimate, chamber-centric shows to full orchestral premieres at Jordan Hall.

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), affiliate orchestra for new music at New England Conservatory, will join NEC in sponsoring a concerto competition for works written after 1961.

Provisions: The competition will be held on May 11, 2011 from 1pm to 3pm at Keller Room, Jordan Hall building. The competition will consist of one round.

Eligibility: The competition is open to any full-time NEC student, instrumental or vocal, who will be returning in the 2011/2012 academic year.

BMOP/sound, the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music recordings, today announced the August '09 release of John Cage: Sixteen Dances, the first and only available SACD surround sound edition. Widely recognized as perhaps the most influential American composer of the 20th Century, John Cage took a remarkably bold first step in composition by using chance operations in his piece, Sixteen Dances (1951).

On Saturday, Dec. 11, at 8 pm, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) kicks off a three-concert performance series at Wellesley College with "Luminous Noise: Three Women Compose," featuring works by Chen Yi, Judith Weir and Jenny Olivia Johnson, three of the most dynamic female composers creating new orchestral works today. The performance, held at Houghton Chapel, is free and open to the public.

As part of the Sundays at Tufts–Community Concert Series, Boston Modern Orchestra Project – the premier orchestra in the United States dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music – will launch a brand new concert series to be co-hosted by Tufts University on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the Distler Performance Hall of the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on the Tufts' Medford/Somerville campus.

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's leading orchestra dedicated exclusively to performing, commissioning, and recording new music, will present its final concert of the 2009-10 season, Full Score, at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough Street), on Friday, May 28 at 8:00pm. After three instrument-centric performances ("Big Bang" for percussion, "Band in Boston" for winds, and "Strings Attached" for strings), the BMOP season will culminate with a full orchestral program uniting over 70 musicians and guest baritone Sanford Sylvan.

BMOP/sound, the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music recordings, adds to its venerable catalog the October 2009 release of Elliott Schwartz: Chamber Concertos I-VI. Known for his wildly eclectic music, Schwartz remains committed to composing concert music which reflects his fascination with brilliant instrumental color, stylistic collage, and neo-Baroque textural models.

BMOP/sound, the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music recordings, today announced the release of Ken Ueno: Talus, an imaginative collection of three innovative concerti by composer/vocalist Ken Ueno (winner of the 2006-07 Rome Prize and the 2010-11 Berlin Prize and UC Berkeley professor). Representing Ueno's debut album on BMOP/sound, Talus constitutes a kind of trilogy that contemplates mortality as well as the multifaceted ways in which survivorship requires heroism.

BMOP/sound, the nation's premiere label launched by an orchestra and dedicated exclusively to new music recordings, today announced its May 2010 release, William Thomas McKinley: R.A.P. With more than 350 works to his name and awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and the National Endowment for the Arts, McKinley has established himself as one of the most highly regarded and prolific composers of his generation.
